How would it cause increased compression? Compression implies that the exhaust valves are closed ("compression stroke") and if intake valves are stuck closed and no air is taken in (intake stroke), then there is no air to compress and compression goes down. Please enlighten me. A bad head gasket can cause increased compression, if antifreeze is getting in the cylinder, but that's a whole different ball of wax. If you've already pulled the piston out and are measuring the rings, why not just brush hone the bores and fit new rings for the same amount of effort?
